Texans v Vikings MNF 1st Half

Monday, 31. August 2009

8:31 pm The Texans have 22 seconds to do something. Long pass near the sideline to David Anderson. Timeout. Texans have it in Viking territory. Same pattern this time to Daniels. Vikings playing horrible 2 minute defense here. Horrible run call there with 9 seconds left. It served no prupose other than to waste time off the clock. Field goal by Kris Brown good from 46 to end the half. 17-10 Vikings at halftime.

8:27 pm Big 3rd down here for the Texans defense. Texans defensive coordinator is getting ate up so far this preseason. Eugene Wilson may be moving down the depth chart after that horrible attempt at a tackle. Chester Taylor for a long td on a screen pass on 3rd and 3.

8:25 pm Bulman is getting hogtied on each passing situation. He is eating up Bryant McKinnie.

8:22 pm Not sure why Jaworski is saying that’s a good pass by Favre. He nearly had it intercepted, and there was no chance for the receiver to catch it. Rice gets hammered by McCain but holds on for a big third down catch for the Vikings.

8:21 pm 2 minute warning, Vikings 10 Texans 7

8:13 pm Okoye appears to be getting good penetration, but just doesn’t have the speed to catch up with Peterson. Good to see Amobi playing well.

8:08 pm Schaub over the middle to Daniels. What a catch, he gets hammered and holds on. Schaub a little behind David, but an excellent catch. The Texans are down to the three yard line. Slaton tucks in behind his fullback for a 3 yard td. Excellent drive by the Texans.

8:05 Texans trying to get to the corner a little more. Schaub scrambles for a first down. Then he hits Owen Daniels for another 12 yards and a first down. Leach getting into the action here. Nice checkdown by Schaub for 7 yards. Schaub with the bootleg for 4 yards a first down. Limping a bit. Let’s get him out of the game.

7:54 pm After a questionable roughing the passer, Peterson up the middle for nothing again. Diles comes in and makes a play. What do you know. He needs to play. Favre with a perfect pass, but Harvin has a case of the butterfingers. Field goal for the Vikings

7:52 pm Adibi costing the Texans again. Diles needs to be in the game. I’m not sure why Adibi is untouchable.

7:50 pm Schaub with a horribly telegraphed pass right to Ben Leber. Peterson twice up the middle for not much of anything. Ryans with another tackle.

7:47 pm Blitz, Ryans gets to Favre right up the middle. Ryans gets Chester Taylor on a 3rd and long play. Ryans is on pace for about 30 tackles right now.

7:45 pm End of the first quarter. Vikings up 7-0

7:40 pm Texans special teams looking pretty weak, sloppy tackling.

7:38 pm Brown running tough so far.<

7:32 pm Demeco Ryans is the best defensive player on the field up til now. Texans with a big stop on 3rd and long, stopping Harvis one yard short on a pass from Favre.

7:30 pm Antonio Smith overruns his containment and lets Peterson escape for a couple of yards. Favre with a bullet to the tight end for a first down.

7:22 pm Slaton trying to run to the corner too much. He gets stopped for a loss. Screen pass to Daniels for 6. To the best receiver in the league for a first down. Slaton trying to get to the outside again insteaf of hitting his hole.

7:19 pm We see the Vikings break out the Wildcat formation for the first time. Harvin hands off to Peterson for a 5 yard gain.

7:18 pm Favre escapes and hits the tight end down the seam.

7:12 pm Slaton fumbles, but they miss the call. Schaub misses an open Daniels and gets sacked by Jared Allen

7:08 pm Peterson off to the races on an overrun by Xavier Adibi. A 75 yard td run on the first play of the game. Didn’t take long to expose the Texans run defense.

Last House on the Left Movie Review

Monday, 31. August 2009

Watched this movie last night with my wife. Coming on the heels of watching Timecrimes(movie review Here) this movie was a bit of a let down, but it was still worth the watch.

This movie is a bit like the movie Taken in a sense. If Last House on the LEft would have been more like Taken, then it would have been a more entertaining film probably. The credits show that Wes Craven was a producer on this film. He directed the original back in the 70’s. Now I have never seen the original, but I just may check it out after viewing this one. I was always under the impression that the original was a horror movie. If it is similar to this one, then it really isn’t much like a horror movie. It’s more of a suspense movie with some action mixed in.

The Plot
The plot in itself is a pretty good one. It’s about a family that goes to their vacation home out in the middle of nowhere. Their young daughter goes to town to hang out with her friend. Friend and daughter end up meeting a boy who says he has some primo weed they can smoke with him. They go back to his hotel, have a little smoke, then in wanders the rest of the boy’s family. They are all convicts, one recently having escaped from custody the night before. This is where the action begins. The convicts have the girls. They are trying to escape. Eventually the daughter’s parents find out and the parents will try to save the daughter and themselves from the bad guy. It’s a fairly typical plotline, but it is unique enough to make yoou want to stick around and see how it plays out.

The Acting

I thought the acting was done really well actually. Particularly the lead bad guy. All of the bad guys/girls were pretty creepy though, but the main one was very believable as a convict. Maybe he has done some time before he became an actor, I’m not sure. I just know he was very believable as a crazed lunatic. His brother/sidekick was crazy too. They were actually probably too crazy looking, as they should have never been able to pull off being normal, which they will have to do eventually, with as creepy as they were acting throughout the entire movie.

The action
Here is where I thought the movie was a bit lacking. Again, I am comparing to the movie Taken, which this one kinda turns into that sort of revenger type father trying to protect his daughter plot towards the end. I thought there could have been more action at the tail end of this movie. Most of the entire movie was the setup for the climax. The climactic portion of the movie was really almost an after thought. Maybe had there been one other bad guy to take down. I’m not sure. Maybe it was just right as it was and I’m jut too hard to please. I was just left wanting a bit more in terms of action when the movie was finished.

Overall I give this movie a 6 out of 10

Reasons the Houston Texans will make the playoffs in 2009

Sunday, 30. August 2009

I’ve given you the reasons why the Texas Longhorns will win the National Championship HERE.

Now it’s time to tell you why the Texans will make the playoffs.
The Houston Texans are definitely making the playoffs in 2009. There are no ifs ands or buts about this fact. They have waited ong enough. The fans have been through enough. It’s time for them to shine. Well, that can’t really be enough. The whole “they’re due” argument doesn’t really hold much water in the sporting world. You have to have specific reasons to back up the claim. That’s what I am about to lay down for you here.

The Reasons the Texans make the playoffs this year

#1 Matt Schaub is going to stay healthy
The guy has been injured more than Grant Hill since he came to the Texans. He gets inured putting his helmet on it seems. This is a case where he really is due to have an injury free season. This is where being due can actually come into play. There’s no way the football gods are going to let Matt get hurt this year. When healthy, Schaub has proven to be a top notch qb. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, and he gets the ball to one of his plethora of playmakers.

#2 The offensive skill position players may be the best in the league
Steve Slaton was robbed of a Pro Bowl selection last year. Go back and look and his stats were comparable to any running back in the league over the entire season. Andre Johnson is arguable the best receiver in the league and at worst number 2 behind Fitzgerald. Owen Daniels is coming into the prime of his career and just came off a Pro Bowl selection. Kevin Walter caught 60 balls for 900 yards and 8 td’s. He’s the perfect compliment to Andre Johnson. You have Andre Davis as your third receiver and he’s a deep threat. David Anderson is the 4th receiver and has a knack for making the important catches. Schaub we already talked about. It all adds up to Houston having a tremendous set of skill players on offense.

#3 The offensive line is looking as good as it ever has
Eric Winston is about to become a pro bowl right tackle. Chester Pitts hasn’t missed a game in the franchise’s history. Duane Brown is in his second year at LT and will only get better. This unit has been much maligned, and rightfully so, since the inception of the team. I am still not ready to call it a team strength, but it is definitely no longer a real weakness.

#4 They will get pressure on the opposing qb
Mario Williams has accounted for nearly half of the Texans sacks the last two years. That’s good for him, but bad for the team as a whole. He needs someone else to step up and help out. That will happen this year. They have added Antonio Smith from the Arizona Cardinals to provide some pressure off the other end. They also drafted Connor Barwin, who is a darkhorse to be the defensive rookie of the year in my opinion. This guy is a pass rush specialist deluxe. He may flirt with double digit sacks this year simply by coming in on passing situations.

#5 The special teams will really be special
Andre Davis was a pro bowl caliber return man two years ago. He had a bit of an injury last year, but he will be back to form this year. I can see him returning a kick or two for a td this year. He has looked back to his old self in the limited action he has seen. Jacoby Jones, hopefully, will be putting it all together finally this year. The Texans have been waiting on this guy to figure it out for a few years. He has all the talent in the world. He’s big and runs like a deer, but he makes too many mistakes. If he can limit mistakes, watch out in the punt return game. Kris Brown and Matt Turk are as solid as any kicker/punter tandem in the league. Brown is pro bowl level.

#6 The Dunta and Jacques are coming back
Dunta Robinson is in the middle of a contract negotiation and has not played a lick of football this year. The Saints were able to really take advantage of the Texans last week. The Saints are a great offensive squad and don’t really need much help anyways, but with Robinson out, they feasted. Jacques Reeves was a pleasant surprise last year as well. He’st not pro bowl quality, but he is very solid and makes some plays occasionally. He is out with an injury. Once those two starting corners get back into the fold, the pass defense will really look a lot better. Bennet and Glover are both getting valuable experience which will help down the line in nickel and dime situations.

#7 The weaknesses will hold up just well enough to let the strengths of the team overcome.
The defensive tackles are probably the main weakness of the Texans at the moment. This is really bad, because they have invested so many top draft picks on this position. They still haven’t come up with that dominating force in the middle though. Travis Johnson and Amobi Okoye, both 1st round picks, might both be on the sidelines in reserve roles when the season starts. Frank Okam has been playing some good ball, but even he hasn’t looked stellar. Demeco Ryans in the middle should help nullify the advantages that opposing offenses may have against the middle of the Texans defensive line. The addition of Cushing and with Diles coming back from season ending injury last year, the linebackers are looking very solid for the first time in team history.

Look, I’m not saying to get your Super Bowl tickets already. But, hey, if you want to get your Super Bowl tickets that’s fine too. Just don’t blame me when you are selling them on stubhub come wildcard weekend.
The Texans are looking good. It’s a good time to be a Texans fan.

Timescrimes Movie Review

Friday, 28. August 2009

This review may contain spoilers, so beware.

If you have never seen this movie, you must get this on your netflix account, download it, find it at a redbox, do whatever you have to do. This isn’t the greatest movie ever made. It’s not going to make us forget about Citizen Kane. It is extremely complicated and fun to watch though.

It’s all about this guy named Hector. He comes home to his wife and brings her a table and some other goodies from the store. He gets a strange call from an unkown number. He calls it back and gets a mahcine. She decides she needs to go shopping, about the same time he starts seeing a girl undressing in the woods using his binoculars. The wife comes back out to tell him goodbye, and then he loses the girl. He goes in the woods for a closer look, because it’s a naked girl and that’s what you gotta do in that situation.

It’s at this point that things get a little hairy for Hector. He sees the girl, and then he gets stabbed in the arm by a crazy guy(shown at top) with pink bandages all around his face. He runs to a building and starts talking to some guy on a walkie talkie. He ends up running from bandage face up to this guy’s silo he’s in. The guy talks him into getting in this big vat full of what looks like milk. The lid comes down on Hector and he awakens a moment later….but he has gone back in time. He goes outside to check out the scene with his binoculars. He looks over at his house and notivces himself coming home with that table again. His wife is outside again in the garden, etc.

It’s at this point that Hector does some crazy stuff that is never going to be good when talking about time travel. He should have just stayed to himself as anyone who has watched Back to the Future would tell you. Lay low, don’t mess with the space-time continuum and what not.

Hector decides to call his house, for what reason I’m not sure. He just wanted to say hi. So, it turns out this is the unknown number that called the house earlier in the film….

I will let you watch the rest and decide for yourself. This whole movie is very intricate in how it is setup. The details that flow from one scene to another to give you clues throughout. It is very satisfying and thought provoking. This is proof that you do not need an enormous budget in order to create entertaining cinema. There are a total of 4 actors and three scenes for the entire movie. I didn’t even notice this until afterwards when I thought back. While wacthing the movie you are too engrossed in trying to unravel the mystery.
I give this movie an 8/10 rating overall. go check it out.
